Sheldon’s laptop is the “Alienware M17x R2” model in the color
Nebula Red from computer manufacturer DELL, and according to some PC and game magazine reviews, it’s the ultimate gaming PC.
Sheldon bought the remarkable high tech laptop to pamper himself after some burglars broke into his apartment and stole his old laptop and all the games.
Alienware M17x R2 17inch display model with its high performing technical specs – of course, just for the time back in 2010 when it was first launched – fit the gaming geek in Sheldon, this laptop model is probably more meaningful for Sheldon‘s character for several reasons.
Firstly, because the laptop has a glowing alien logo in the top behind the screen and fits to Sheldon’s literally alien-like character.
The interesting detail is, the laptop can be in fact firstly spotted in the laundry room where Penny tells Sheldon that she figured out Sheldon is just studying humans to find their weaknesses and report back to his
alien overlords. (TBBT S03E15)

Furthermore, Sheldon’s alien logo on his laptop is not only a subtle visual code for his dialog with Penny in this scene, but the alien analogy also fits into Sheldon’s ‘alienated’ or ‘alien-like’ behavior that he reveals in many other episodes.
In the episode
The Prom Equivalency (S08E08) for instance, Sheldon claims that he pretended to be an alien many times because it’s a
valuable coping mechanism.
Leonard also once described Sheldon as the
Extraterrestrial Intelligence SETI is searching for in the whole universe (TBBT S06E03).
Another interesting detail is the color
Nebula Red, which refers to an interstellar
cloud (in Latin,
Nebula) of dust and gases.
nebula describes actually astronomical objects and galaxies, which fits into Sheldon’s studies as a theoretical physicist who also studies astrophysics.
Sure, it’s not documented that the TBBT producers really had all these associations in mind, when choosing DELL’s red
Alienware M17x R2 laptop, but all these little indicators show how much love they put into any prop detail to make them meaningful.
The Final Proof that Sheldon is the Alien in The Big Bang Theory
The hidden message on Sheldon’s notebook finally unveiled and what it means for his character. This is actually the same red laptop that Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) has used since the episode “The Large Hadron Collision…
